Re: Aphrodite : Goddess of Love [BG/PSP]
In all honestly I must say Aphrodite is a bit disappointing. Stat-wise that is. If you face Aphrodite it's easy to pick ranged attackers to circumvent her Revenge. And pick a big, bad monster with Block (like Talos or the fast-walking Geryon), as Aphrodite doesn't even have it - so she can't move while you harrass her from a distance with your other units. So much for Revenge.
Her Irrisistable power isn't all that freightening either. 1 AoW card - and you can attack her for a full turn. If it were 1 AoW per attacking unit, it would already be better. But just a bit. And since she leans so heavily on her powers, young Diomedes would be a true nemesis for Aphrodite.
Aprhodite seems to be the weakest Goddess of all.

Combined with those three crones whose name I keep forgetting it would get rather good since they also cause any unit to spend an art of war card before attacking anyone in their area or next to their area. So then it costs two.
It's a one point unit.
Sadly one which seems a very unlikely ally to Aphrodite.

Why do you read it that way? I read her ability as each time she is attacked you have to spend an AoW card.

It says "a player" must pay an AoW to attack, not "for every unit". A player can attack with multiple units.Cryocat wrote:"1 AoW card - and you can attack her for a full turn. If it were 1 AoW per attacking unit, it would already be better. But just a bit."

Semantically it makes the most sense.
7-dec.: Léo just said he thinks it's 1 AoW per unit, but he will check with Benoit first.
12-dec: "Irresistible is a Passive Power. It works all the time for any single attack." (Benoit on BGG)
The Graeae's power only affects monsters, not Gods. Too bad (for Aphrodite)!Rhalius wrote:Combined with those three crones whose name I keep forgetting it would get rather good since they also cause any unit to spend an art of war card before attacking anyone in their area or next to their area. For having played a few test games, I can tell you that paying one AoW to attack her (even if it's per turn) would be a significant damper on the opponent's strategic ability, especially if a lot of their units' powers cost AoW.

Leo confirmed last night, it is one AoW per unit to attack her

Ah that makes sense, instantly makes her a lot better then.

I strongly prefer the one they went with for the stretch goal.
It's the goddess of love and beauty, not of sex. The alternative just looks too cheap for my taste. Works for a nymph but not a goddess.

I love her alternate sculpt. She may be the goddess of love but she slept around a lot in the mythology. So she might as well be the goddess of sex tbh xD
Re: Aphrodite : Goddess of Love [BG/PSP]
It's nothing compared to Zeus, really. Most stories of mythology seem to be about him sleeping around.

Re: Aphrodite : Goddess of Love [BG/PSP]
True that. Tho for a goddess of love she wasnt really nice and loved everybody but her husband xD
Re: Aphrodite : Goddess of Love [BG/PSP]
It might be challenging to find a sympathedic god in greek mythology, oddly enough I think that Hades and Ares where not that bad compared to others, despite them being the gods of death and war.

Well ... better attack her with a very big and bad monster or unit to make your AoW worth it, then! ;-)Cryocat wrote:Leo confirmed last night, it is one AoW per unit to attack her
Or petrify her so she can't use her powers (at the costs even more AoW cards) ...... or bring in Diomedes. Although he also requires an AoW card to attack with 9-10 dice (otherwise he's 6-7), but at least he doesn't get a revenge token.
You may want to take Agamemnon that lets you search for 1 AoW each activation .. or even better: Chiron. Or Hippolyta.
But in any case: Aphrodite is a bit of a strange Goddess. She doesn't really bring a lot to improve her army; it's all about her. She's not really a melee or ranged attacker either and I don't see her in the frontline. If you have a strong God or Goddess with decent damage output you can basically ignore her and make use of your (RP) numeric advantage to destroy her army.
