He seems to be the type of God that really wants to survive, even if there are loads of troops in front of him!

The flame token is interesting since it disables units without a way for the opponent to reactivate them by paying an art of war card.
Might be very devastating in a free for all battle since then more players would go before its your turn again.
Got to say though that I dont like how he looks at all. He looks like he belongs in a god of war game or something. The mask seems terrible and the anvil on his back looks weird.

I actually love this model! This was the model which had me leaning towards this expansion over Poseidon when I was still in self-denial about getting the Titan pledge.
I'm wondering how well his flame token ability and Tityos earthquake ability would combine together

8/9 is very decent for a God and his Flames of the Forge ability very strong. As long as you have AoW and Activation cards you can basically glue an area full of incapacitated opponents in place and keep on hammering on them. Even if that area contains Gods.
His Golems are just a nice extra to boost his defenses a little.
When used right, a very powerful God. Even brings his own AoW cards (2).

Be careful when keeping the Golems in his area, since their ability affects his own Flames of the Forge power.

Ah I see! Good point!MaxC wrote:Be careful when keeping the Golems in his area, since their ability affects his own Flames of the Forge power.
When performing his Flames attack, I wonder if he also attacks himself with his area attack. And puts a token on himself and all other friendly units in his area as well.
Better be careful, he's a bit like Acamas: works best at range 1.

Area attacks don't damage the units that use them unless specifically stated. This is in the rulebook. Hephaestus and Acamas thus don't damage themselves. The Phoenix specifically damages itself.

Like caibre pointed out, area attacks never affect the attacker except for the Phoenix, and the token wouldn't affect him because it gets removed at the beginning of your next turn anyway.

Well there's still the discussion of using Instant powers when disabled, for example.
But in any case: friendlies in the own area have to be careful, just like when with Acamas.

I think, he would indeed damage his own troops. Therefore like stated: keep the Golem-Guards in his area and attack at Range 1!

It can damage other friendly units, just not Hephaestus himself.

Yes, I got that
His Forge of the Flame Ability affects his area or one area adjacent to it. That means as long as you keep your opponents out of your area and your guards inside his area you can always attack your opponents without fearing to attack your own units.

Hephaestus is definitely the one I'm looking forward to playing the most. He just looks so interesting and can be such a brute to deal with close range.

Definitely! It is interesting, how different the several Gods have to be played! Some have to keep enemies at distance but some as Hephaestus may just rush into combat and spread devastation!
